Ghost Controls Access Control Installation in San Jose, CA

Ghost Controls Access Control Installation: The San Jose Owner’s Guide

Ghost Controls access control installation in San Jose typically runs $340-$780 depending on the control type and existing wiring condition, and we carry the full line of Ghost Controls-compatible keypads, remotes, and control boards on our trucks for same-day service. Most San Jose homeowners discover the problem when their gate stops responding to the keypad, the remote works only from six feet away, or the control board throws a rapid-flash error code after a rainy night. We stock and install Ghost Controls-compatible access control hardware for every series they make, and we settle on an upfront price before touching a single wire.

Which Ghost Controls Models This Applies To

Ghost Controls organizes their gate openers into three main series: the premium Architectural Series (AXWV, AXSL, and AXDK models), the workhorse TSS1XP and TDS2XP single and dual swing kits, and the older DTP1 and DEP2 lines still running in plenty of Willow Glen and Almaden Valley driveways. The access control part you need depends on which series is mounted on your post.

Architectural Series openers use the AXWK wireless keypad and the AXLF vehicle sensor loop, both running on Ghost Controls’ 915 MHz proprietary frequency. TSS and TDS series units pair with the GK-BX wired keypad or the older GK-WX wireless version, and the vehicle sensor is the standard 50-foot burial loop. The gotcha we see constantly in San Jose: homeowners buy a GK-BX for an Architectural Series opener and wonder why the keypad will not sync. The frequencies do not cross. Check the model sticker on the motor housing before ordering anything.

We carry OEM Ghost Controls keypads and sensors, plus quality aftermarket equivalents from Linear and DoorKing that interface cleanly when the original part is back-ordered. For the DTP1 and DEP2 legacy units, we often fabricate a mounting adapter so a current-production keypad fits the existing post holes without drilling new ones. That saves the stucco or masonry from extra scarring.

Signs Your Ghost Controls Access Control Installation Is Failing

  • Keypad beeps but gate does not move. The keypad battery is fine and the code is accepted, yet nothing happens at the motor. Usually the control board relay has burned contacts from years of inrush current, or the low-voltage wiring between keypad and board has corroded where it passes through the post base in damp soil.
  • Remote range shrinks from fifty feet to six feet. The receiver antenna on the control board has degraded, or the 915 MHz receiver module is failing. In the hilly terrain around Communications Hill and the eastern foothills, we also see range issues caused by new construction or tree growth blocking line-of-sight.
  • Rapid-flash error code after rain. Ghost Controls boards flash diagnostic codes through the status LED. A rapid flash pattern following moisture usually means water intrusion at the keypad junction box or the control board enclosure gasket has hardened. San Jose’s dry summers bake these seals; the first winter rain finds the gap.
  • Gate opens on its own at odd hours. The vehicle sensor loop is developing an intermittent short, or a neighbor’s new garage door opener is broadcasting on a harmonic of your frequency. We see this in dense neighborhoods like Rose Garden where lot lines are tight and RF noise is high.
  • Keypad buttons require harder and harder presses. The membrane switch layer beneath the buttons has worn through. On the GK-BX this happens around year seven in normal use, faster if the keypad faces afternoon sun. The AXWK holds up better but still succumbs eventually.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Service Typical Range in San Jose
Keypad replacement (wired or wireless) $340-$520
Control board replacement $480-$780
Vehicle sensor loop installation $380-$590
Full access control upgrade (keypad + remote + sensor) $620-$940

The range depends on three things: whether we can reuse the existing low-voltage wiring, how much conduit or burial work the post location requires, and whether you want the basic keypad or the full smartphone-enabled Architectural package. Our price includes the part, labor, testing of all safety devices, and cleanup. We do not charge separately for “diagnostics” if you proceed with the repair. Every access control installation is covered by our 90-Day Done Right Promise - written, no paperwork, no arguing. If the keypad acts up or the range drops, we come back and make it right.

Active offers: $50 off any repair over $250, free second opinion on any written estimate, and our standing 5% senior and veteran discount.

DIY or Call Us?

There is a safe middle ground here. You can check the keypad battery, clear spider webs from the junction box, and verify that the breaker feeding the outlet has not tripped. Those three checks solve about fifteen percent of the calls we get.

Everything past that point involves line-voltage wiring, control board capacitors that hold a charge after disconnect, and low-voltage circuits that are easy to short with the wrong screwdriver. The Ghost Controls control board runs on 120V AC and controls a motor that can deliver serious torque. We have seen homeowners fry a $280 board by reversing two low-voltage terminals, or worse, bridge line voltage to the control circuit. If you are not already comfortable with a multimeter and a wiring diagram, this is not the project to learn on.

We are an independent service provider - not affiliated with Ghost Controls - and we have trained on their systems since they first entered the California market. Most access control swaps in San Jose take under two hours, and we carry the parts. Call (866) 977-5773 for a free estimate and we will tell you exactly what your system needs before we schedule.
